Harvard Professor William Granara will discuss cross-cultural conflict between France and the Arab World through the prism of headscarves. Beginning with Fanon's 1952 argument about unveiling in colonel Algeria through the 2004 French school cases to today's burkini bans, Professor Granara will explore how ongoing debates on dress codes continue to challenge French values of liberté and laicité.
