Crystal Nix-Hines was nominated by President Obama to the position of United States Permanent Representative to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization with the rank of Ambassador on July 9, 2013.
A graduate of Princeton University and Harvard Law School (JD'90), Ambassador Nix-Hines served in three positions with the Department of State: Counselor to the Assistant Secretary for Democracy, Human Rights and Labor of the U.S. Department of State; member of the Department’s Policy Planning Staff; and Special Assistant to the Legal Adviser.
In addition to her diplomatic and legal work, Ms. Nix-Hines has written and produced for several American network television programs, including “The Practice,” “Alias,” and “Commander-in-Chief.” Before embarking on her legal career, she was a reporter for The New York Times where she won a Publisher's award and a New York Press Club award.
